Course Description:
The trail crew at Team Mount Beauty has been busy over the winter designing and building an awesome new course for the 2006 event. Their design brief was to create a course that is encouraging to newcomers and recreational riders but also offer a real challenge to the elite guy's and girls chasing the national champion's jersey. They have done this by linking some of the most popular recreational trails in the park. The climbs are steady, following the contour lines so you won't need a resting heart rate of 45 beats per minute and the long descent is fast and flowing after a tight technical section.
The riders complete an extended start straight and head out on a widened track for approximately 400 metres. This will enable passing before climbing the six switches leading into fast undulating single track that rolls through numerous natural gullies and steady ridge climbs. Twice dropping down and switching back through shady gullies which lead to the rolling ups and downs of the secret track. The course then turns upwards once again through tall kangaroo grass to a 200 metre double track and the highest point of the course. Dropping down into Harry's gully is a tight technical section which links into a fast downhill course that switches as it descends down the cattle track spur over exposed roots and stumps. Don't get caught napping in the Kangaroo grounds! The course then opens out through rolling grasslands and forest, to finish the loop at the bottom of the 4X course and in to the finish line.
